Laurence Meyer, MD

Laurence Meyer started to work in VA research as a lab technician working in biochemical genetics at the San Diego VA in 1972, after competing college at UC San Diego. He received a PhD in genetics from UC Davis, and an MD from the University if Miami, and completed residencies and fellowships at the University of Utah in Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Clinical Genetics and Geriatrics.
Jonathan Nebeker, MD
Research Scientist / Investigator
Dr. Nebeker is a practicing geriatrician and national Chief Medical Informatics Officer at the Department of Veterans Affairs. He is also professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine. His degrees and training took place at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania. His research has focused on adverse drug events, EHR user-experience design, and AI approaches to hazard surveillance and process control.

Noel Carlson, PhD

Dr. Carlson has been at the VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System since 1995 and he has served as the Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Research since 2010. He is a Research Professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Utah. He received his PhD from the University of Arizona and trained as a post-doctoral fellow at Duke University prior to coming to Utah.
P. Jon White, MD
Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS), Research
P. Jon White MD is the Chief of Research and Development at the Veterans Affairs Salt Lake City Health Care System. He directs projects in informatics and causal inference and co-leads an Evidence Based Policy Center. Dr. White is also a Senior Advisor for Artificial Intelligence to the VA's Office of Research and Development and Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah conducting translational research funded by NIH, FDA, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Angela Williams, Pharm D

Dr. Angela D. Williams serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Salt Lake City VA Health Care System. In this role, she provides executive leadership and strategic direction for a complex integrated healthcare system that delivers comprehensive clinical services to nearly 70,000 Veterans across 8 sites of care and 27 counties spanning Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. Dr. Williams oversees a $1.06 billion operating budget and leads a workforce of over 3,200 employees.
Susan Garstang, MD
Board Secretary / Treasurer / Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS), Academic Affairs
Dr. Garstang received her Medical (MD) degree from Washington University School of Medicine, followed by residency training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and a fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine (SCIM) at what is now Kessler Institute of Rehabilitation at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School. She is board certified in PM&R and also holds subspecialty certification in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine and Brain Injury Medicine.
